Tired or being inside now that the weather is starting to turn nicer, but still wanting to be budget-conscious? Here’s a list of activities that are either free or low-cost! Try one or try them all! And let me know what other ideas you have!

  • Hike a local trail. Check your town resources for maps and locations of trails.

  • Float down a river in a kayak/canoe/tube (make friends with someone who owns one of these or see if you can find one to borrow if you don’t want to purchase one)

  • Board game night with friends – we started a monthly board game night with a few other friends in town. Everyone brings some snacks, drinks and a game and it’s a great time for all!

  • Embrace your inner scout and hang around a backyard fire pit. S’mores encouraged!

  • Drinks in the backyard – every once in a while, we will spontaneously invite some friends over to sit on our back deck when it’s a beautiful evening. Nothing fancy – just friends hanging on a deck!

  • Potluck with friends – same idea as the game night, just minus the games!

  • Coffee meetup – find a cute local coffee shop to grab a drink and spend a Saturday morning

  • Play date (kids or pets!) -  I have cats so as much as I want to have a cat play date, I don’t think it would actually turn out well! But I hear of other’s doing this with dogs and kids!

  • Free concerts or movies – I frequently see groups putting on free concerts or movies during the summer months. Grab a blanket and go enjoy!

  • Biking – dust off your bike, fill the tires with air and go for a cruise around the neighborhood!

  • Yard sales – I love a good yard sale! Grab a friend and see what treasures you can find!

  • Volunteer – there are always non-profit groups who are looking for volunteers. Find one you care about and see what kind of help they need right now

  • Local young professional groups – there are several in my area and I’ve met a ton of people through them (including my now husband!!) and they are always putting on low cost or free events

  • Grab some sports equipment and head to a park – cornhole, frisbee, basketball, tennis, pickleball, volleyball or whichever sport you prefer!

  • Go camping – this can be relatively inexpensive, depending on your area and if you already own the equipment

  • Plan a picnic lunch – make a PB&J, grab a blanket and head to a park!

  • Bake cookies, brownies or cupcakes!

  • And finally, because it’s a rainy day as I write this and you need an indoor option (May showers are in full swing!), grab a book and curl up on the couch with a cat! I might be heading to do that myself later this afternoon!
